Pselect Psalms: Psalm 23 – Our Shepherd Friend – Pastor David Schroeder
Despite his somewhat inconsistent walk with God, David saw God to be his shepherd and his friend. No psalm better reveals the intimacy between God and those who choose to follow Him. Notice these wonderful blessings:

God is personal to me (verses 1, 6); God is my provider (verses 2, 5); God is my protector (verses 3, 4).

Pselect Psalms: Psalms Jesus Selected – Pastor David Schroeder
Jesus was not officially a rabbi, but his disciples, many other people, and even a member of the Sanhedrin, Nicodemus, called him Rabbi, which means teacher. His mastery of the OT was phenomenal. In the Gospels 104 times (including parallels), he quoted OT scriptures from 19 different books. He quoted from eight Psalms, using them in different ways.  1. Declaring His identity: Psalm 8:2 / Matthew 21:16, Psalm 118:22, 23 / Matthew 21:42, Mark 12:40, Luke 20:17, and Psalm 110:1 / Matthew 22:44, Mark 12:36 and 14:62, Luke 20:42 and 22:69.  2. Prophetic fulfillment: Psalm 82:6 / John 10:34, Psalm 41:9 / John 13:18 and Psalm 69:4 / John 15:25. 3. Talking to His Father from the cross:  Psalm 22:1 / Mark 15:34 and Psalm 31:5 / Luke 23:46.

Pselect Psalms: Psalm 133 – Dew Unity – Pastor Scott Wilson

How good and pleasant it is  when God’s people live together in unity! It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron’s beard, down on the collar of his robe. It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion. For there the Lord bestows his blessing, even life forevermore.

Pselect Psalms: Psalm 46 – Homeland Security? – Pastor David Schroeder

Looking for security? National security? Social security? Computer security? Eternal security? In Maslow’s pyramid of human needs, after physiological needs, such as food, water, sleep, etc., SECURITY and safety needs are most important. We are an insecure species. Always have been, but maybe more today than ever. Threatened by uncontrollable nature, hostile nations, and God Himself, in vain we look for security through our own efforts. Psalm 46 assures us that God, and only God, can provide as we face: Cosmic upheaval; verses 1-3, National bullying; verses 4-7, and Divine judgment; verses 8-11.

Without any doubt, the #1 reason people stop believing in God is His failure to meet their expectations. People easily become disappointed in God because, frankly, He doesn't always do their will. The writer of Psalm 116 was faced with the terror of death (verses 3 and 6) and defeated it through prayer (verses 2 and 4) and gratitude (verses 12-19).

Psalm 2 is one of about 20 messianic psalms, meaning it is a psalm that referred to the coming messiah. Psalm 2 has also been used as a great missionary psalm, especially verse 8, Only ask, and I will give you the nations as your inheritance, the whole earth as your possession. Psalm 2 is very important because it raises the question of how God has related to the gentiles throughout history.
